Monthly Club Meeting – “Current Conservation Concerns of American Goshawk in Pennsylvania”

American goshawk was recently recognized and formally listed in Pennsylvania as Endangered. We will briefly cover the history of the goshawk population in Pennsylvania and suggested reasons for its decline. We will describe current monitoring efforts, successes, challenges, and failures. Including the Game Commission’s efforts to test suspected causes contributing to the decline. The critical first step in planning a recovery.
Patti Barber has studied birds on four continents, she did her master’s research on mate guarding and paternity in red-faced warblers. She is currently the endangered bird specialist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission where she is responsible for the 20 Threatened and Endangered native birds of the state.
