From time to time, people reach out to us when they find an injured bird. Our advice: if the bird is definitely injured, get the bird to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator! In Pennsylvania, one must be permitted to care for injured wildlife. Wildlife rehabilitation is not a do-it-yourself science!
Found a Baby Bird?
In the case of baby birds, many times non-intervention is the best course of action unless you are absolutely certain the parents have perished. Keep in mind your proximity to the young or nest could be keeping the parents away.
Local Wildlife Rehabilitators
Below are some local links for local wildlife rehabilitators. Keep in mind most wildlife rehabilitators require you to contact them and make arrangements before bringing them an animal. Additionally, they almost always do not provide transport or pick animals up. You will be required to transport the animal to them. Pennsylvania does have an active network of volunteers that will help capture animals and get them to a rehabber, however they can not pick up animals they have not captured. That volunteer network is called Wildlife in Need or WIN. You can find information on them at: https://winemergencyresponse.com/.
